Some Whitworth stuff I’ve picked up recently
« on: December 03, 2018, 12:50:17 PM »
I’m always on the lookout for Whitworth tools for when I set up at the vintage motorcycle swaps.

A Dunlop hex drive socket set.

Two large Bonneys and a Proto

I’m not familiar with this maker from England. It looks like OLC to me.

Nice!!! I don't look for SAE and Metric stuff anymore, but I also actively seek out Whitworth. When you work on old British stuff, they creep up regularly

I've collected my share of Whitworth....why? Dunno. I have British vehicles (vintage), but they are all SAE (save a few tranny fasteners). I guess I am waiting for the phone call from a friend that says....HEY..do you have xxxxx in this weird Whitworth size?

I too have to slap myself when I look at SAE stuff. It's truly like a bad habit you cant (but should) break.

I have a large collection on Snap on and Blue Point Whitworth/British Standard tools.  Still need a few pieces to finish some sets.  Have also started one of the Merlin Rolls Royce WII sets,  need a few pieces for that set too.

Mind sharing a pic of that WWII RR set snapmom? Bet it's a gorgeous piece of kit.

Guilty here as well. My Raleigh bikes have Whitworth head sizes (but British Cycle threads- 26tpi and 60 degrees) so I do end up using them. And no, I don't need anymore metric of SAE, but can't stop looking either.

Thats a snappy way of holding those 1/4" drive sockets. In my tool rolls I have the awkward shorty socket holders that have sharp edges.

As a machinist dad fixed alot of things that people shoved SAE faster in a whitworth hole.

Snapmom, those sets are tough to come by out west. Too many Mustangs with the Merlins out here.
