Thanks Don. Can you tell me what GM cars in the day needed those clutch sockets? That would be a real education to me. Thanks.

I have a ‘63 Corvair van that has a bunch of clutch head screw fasteners in the interior. I think they were used in other GM trucks from the ‘40s through the ‘60s.

Thanks Don. Very cool vehicles!!! Absolute classics.  The van has to be a one of a kind in the auto industry.  What's it like to drive?

You sit way forward so you have to turn a little later than you think. No power anything. Typical squeaks and rattles. Kind of squirreley at higher speeds. Like me, it’s mostly retired and does small jobs around the cabin. ;) I better post some 3/8” sets to get back on topic. Here are some partially metric Thorsen combination sets made a few years apart.

I recall some website that specialized in those clutch fasteners and drivers. I think it had something to do with old motorhomes? The site had a vintage look to it.

P.S. Found it!

Hi Slip Knot - as you are well aware, the Crown Craftsman tools are the best Sears ever had to offer. And when in pristine condition like your set, that’s vintage gold.   8)

Here is another 3/8” drive set I found at a Berkeley estate sale. It was missing one socket that I found at another sale later that day. It went quickly on eBay since it was a duplicate for me.

An Action 3/8 set from the local swap meet. It's basically new, with only the 1/2 socket seeing any action. It's good for me because the FJ uses 13/16 spark plugs. Everybody these days want sets with 5/8 spark plug sockets. I got it for $7.

Nice set that has not seen much Action. The spark plug socket alone was worth the 7 bucks.
