Hang tags ...........lmao, you guys are serious about them.  Always thought it was sort of a tongue-in-cheek joke.

oh it absolutely is tongue in cheek. years ago someone over on channel 3 started a thread or topic on how to remove a tool from a hang tag. it may have been a ratchet but that doesn't really matter. what matters is that i responded by commenting that if said person could not remove a hang tag from a tool, they may not be qualified to use it. i also may have said that a better option may be to return it if they could not figure out how to remove one or not damage it.

apparently, that did not sit well with the owner and a suspension ensued. some people can't handle the truth and have a sense of humor. it then evolved into a hang tag being more  important or valuable than the tool itself. it is also a bit of a poke at people who have a a vast assortment or collection of shiny tools yet have no clue how to use them.

I remember that "dust up" over there very well. It was hilarious to see "grown" men get their panties in a wad over the most trivial of issues. That thread was great!!!

That thread was almost (emphasis on almost) as funny and weird as when some guys over there starting posting half naked pics of their wives and girlfriends. I knew then and there that I couldn't stick around that place for much longer.

Ah yes, I seem to recall that restoration guy from Canada was the guy that drove that. I don't recall his name, but I do recall his nickname for his Mrs. adorned in her flimsys and skimpies! LOL

Yeah, it seems like yesterday, but a lot of time has passed. I'm very grateful that a lot of us on the GG have been online friends spanning several forum venues.

I started out on Shopfloortalk back in the 1990's. At the time I joined, the place was in a massive dustup over something that old "Franz" had said or done. He must have thrown a huge "turd in the punchbowl" because they kicked him out the door very quickly, and the repercussions lasted a long time. I didn't stick around very long and found Channel 2. When the posts over there began to drift to floor coatings, hang tags, naked wives/girlfriends and eventually banning Uncle Buck, I had enough and followed Uncle Buck, Rusty, J.A.F.E and Krusty over to the GH.

Well, we al know how that GH venture turned out -- craziest thing I ever saw happen to a tool forum. Thankfully Uncle Buck and Rusty managed to save the day by creating the GG forum. Glad I made the switch because I learned a lot, and received a lot of encouragement from all the crew over the years. GG is part of the family .

I haven't thought about GH in years! I never did find out who the mystery owner was. As I recall he imploded the site himself and left something about tacos or Mexican recipes or something insane like that. As I recall, the guy figured out that I was scrambling to build a site under his nose to replace the GH because he started doing a bunch of crazy crap. When he figured out what I was doing he blew the site to hell and the membership which had been growing at a good clip was blown to hell along with the site! That was crazy, I felt really bad about that too. The weird part was I totally built that site for that fool? I wondered for a long time who that fool really was.

Oh, that is even funnier, knowing the backstory. And channel 3, is typical, and believable. I remember they were big on cutting foam for the drawers & tools.

Cannot remember the last time I looked at that website.

There are several problems over there. They are heavy handed with moderation. Excessive juvenile and snarky and unkind comments. People need to be more civil with others. The zero politics thing I understand,  but often what is deemed political at times is too extreme. Then you have the man child that would be king that owns the site. It was a smaller, but better place when Lucky Luke owned it prior to him turning over the keys to Ryan.
