Parts Washer Solvent
« on: July 09, 2019, 03:23:19 PM »
The tool fairy dropped a new to me parts washer off over the weekend. Its a safety klean relabeled snapon parts cleaner that my brother in law acquired and found it was to large for his shop. Now I have a sweet new washer for the cost of a case of beer. It has MSDS labels for mineral spirits but I was curious as to what you guys run in your parts washers. NO WATER BASED!! I have found its about as effective as washing parts in tap water.

Don't have a parts washer, but I've found odorless mineral spirits to be only so-so for cleaning greasy parts. Kerosene is better, for really horrible crud I use acetone (but not on plastic).

Best price for washer fluid in my region is from Tractor Supply. I buy it in the 5 gallon container and it is low odor and has a high flash point. You could use plain mineral spirits, but it will evap quicker and will smell up your shop. Even odorless mineral spirits will evap quicker than the TSC commercial stuff.

Safety Kleen is great quality equipment --

Whatever you do, don't talk to safety kleen unless you plan on signing your life away. They will call the EPA and report you as an illegal dumper if you don't pay their outrageous extortion service. Then once you're in a contract with them, good luck ever getting out.

I went to my local TSC and picked up a 5 gal can of PSC 1000, $53 with tax. I like it, very low odor, cleans well, dries quickly and cleans parts good. Thanks for the advise.
