The cashier brings back many good memories. My family shopped at a local Grand Union super market and for comfort they provided rotating chairs for their cashiers. I recall in the early 60's being fascinated by the speed and accuracy of one older woman sitting on a chair and just blowing through the groceries without ever looking at the register. She was definitely faster than the scan technology we use these days. It truly was an amazing sight to behold. Over half a century later I still remember that old lady "killing it" on that machine.

I worked as a stocker/carryout guy at the local IGA while in high school and saw the same thing with the checkers.  A memory that sticks in mind was when the power went out one day and she pulls a crank from a drawer, inserts it in the side of the register and continues to check the customer out as she cranks it after every item.

And of course the TV (TopValue) stamps to go with it.

I love the stories of memories these pictures bring you.

I used to just sit on the porch at the farmhouse and just listen to my grandfather tell stories as we swung on the porch swing that was almost older then him.

The last one isnt vintage. Recent hurricanes reveled the signs of an original Dodge Brothers building.

Great photo's Muddy, the picture of the Ford retractable line brings back a lot of memories, as I owned at one time 11 1959's.
