Where I grew up as a kid there was an A&P close to our house, and it was a great grocery store. People working there actually knew you by your first and last names because families had been shopping there for a generation. Pretty amazing to think that there used to be a time like that in our recent past.

That first pic shows a guy gas welding next to a guy spraying what has to be lacquer paint.

Gee what could go wrong?

LOL -- all they need in that pic is a guy holding a hot lead spray gun (used to spread molten lead onto body panels) to make the retro December issue of OSHA News.

Reminds me of an old body/paint man I used to work for as a young man.He never wore a respirator when spot paining with lacquer or spraying primer. He just stuffed some Vaseline up his nose and went in the paint booth. Did that job for almost 50 years, and lived into his early 80's -- a ripe old age for older body/paint guys of that vintage.
