Dang -- Dean Jeffries' shop had the Monkeemobile sitting in front of it. Barris' most famous creation was probably the Batmobile, but Jeffries built the Monkeemobile. That's just too cool!

Rural, any info on your pic?
First glance looks like a floating dry dock for a submarine but the buildings on top of what looks like a sub throws that off.

Phil, that is how they build submarines down under.

New Zealand built Price 16-wheeler. The 16-wheeler was a copy of several designs, the concept coming from the earlier Johnston 16-wheeler but using skew bevel gears based on the Climax A. Four 16-wheelers were constructed by A&G Price Ltd in Thames, the first one in 1912 and they lasted in service until 1951.

Wow -- those were the days! I wasn't yet born when the post WWII hot rod boom was starting, but I was lucky enough to experience the hay day of the mid- to late 60s era as a teenager. Growing up in a middle class blue collar neighborhood, it seemed like every household had a car or motorcycle project underway. There were lots of backyard mechanics to watch and learn from in those days. It was a very exciting time to be involved in the car hobby.

Interesting no big driver wheels. Would think it would need major gearing to get anywhere with speed.

Would loved to have been there in those days.

ON THIS DAY

54 years ago today, Burt Munro set a land speed record in the under 1000cc class at Bonneville, bringing New Zealand to the centre of the motoring world.

Munro’s record run of 295.453kph still stands to this day.
