A Kettenschiff (chain ship) on the Neckar, a tributary of the Rhine, near Heilbronn in southern Germany, circa 1885.

Actually saw one of those in action in Germany. They demonstrated the design on a rebuilt museum ship. It was a popular mode of transport in Germany. The shipping company would sink a large heavy chain into the rivers. Some segments were many miles long, and a steam engine would provide the rotary power to grab the chain and pull the ship upstream. Same motive principle as the cable cars in San Francisco, except the chain was stationary and the ship provided the power.

Wonder where that "smallest" station was located. Anyone have a clue?

Cool building, but the article states that it had a trap door and spiral staircase down to a much larger storage and office area underground. Too bad the family lost it after WWII. The museum in town rebuilt the original above ground station as a display. What a great idea!

Trying to get out of this funk, so I'm not so sluggish when I return to work. Did a few loads of laundry, cleaned my basement work shop, and got the next big project on the workbench. Didn't even take an afternoon nap :))

Good, A funk and lethhargy are tough to break out of.   What is the plan for the tractor?

Anyway. I'm going to restore it for a Christmas present for Our two year old daughter. I re-did a John Deere two years ago for our son.

Not sure I understand this swap...
Unless there was a certain class they were trying to get to with that flathead.
