Western Auto was cool. The cheapest bias ply tires available. I don't think they were even 2ply. ;D But they had .22 ammo too, so it wasn't all bad.

We had a 1hour martinizing cleaners here too.

One of the founders of Western Auto was George Pepperdine (sp?) who went on to found Pepperdine University.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

Had a Western Auto store here in town, think they were closed in the 80s,  also have two of their catalogs,  one 1921 and a 1931,   Western part because they originated in Denver Co.

Old Home offices of Western Auto was in KCMO. Even today, most of two decades since they folded the uniquely shaped building still sports its Western Auto signs identifying it as their home office and corporate location. I miss Western Auto. They were cheap as a supplier I will admit, but when I was a kid their parts kept the old mans fleet rolling.

Muddy , to bad you missed Western Auto. When they closed up was when America changed.
Can't explain it , just a more innocent time period.
Young kids loved Western Auto , a Dollar in your pocket would take up hours deciding what to spend it on.
I was never bothered about browsing in any of the several WA in our area.

For a kid of the muscle bike era, sting rays, krate bikes and spider bikes the accessories of that era sold by WA was vast. Firestone stores had the best tires some green, blue and red, and the coolest cheaters and red line slicks too!

That's real horsepower. Always cool to see how the heavy work was done in the past. Don't see many heavy horses now.

Nothing quite as impressive as watching a man skilled with a team that is working a set of Belgium, or other such draft horse. I had personally never seen a team of big horses being worked until only a few years ago. I was totally blown away and impressed beyond the ability to put into words! You cannot understand what I am speaking of by reading about it either, you have to see a team being worked to totally understand.
