It`s official I`m a total effen nut case..
Stay tuned.
-
Be careful what you say with all these red flag laws. :o
-
C'mon you tease, what did you do?!
-
He told me....so I know already. I'll share with everyone .....he's a bonafide Oxwall enthusiast, now that he has dumped his P&C tool collection.
There...now you know. :)
-
^ that's not what I heard. My spies sent me the photo below.

It`s official I`m a total effen nut case..
Is this something new ??
-
I believe it. You've let too many nice deals slide by.
-
Not sure they slid by, but more of a practical matter, where to put it all. And a need for a back yard power distribution station
;D

WY?
-
WY?
No not yet.
I should have the story up by the end of the week.
-
Nobody like a tease.

Where ya goin???
-
I`m not going anywhere yep I`m just moving an item in....lord help me.
-
You got the lathe then. Let me know when you get it sorted. I got some projects to send your way :-*
-
MMMMMMM maybe not.
-
I have 2 minds ....... one is lost the other is out looking for it.
I think it's the lathe also, he will love it. They are handy in ways I never thought of before becoming an owner.

Ok it`s story time.
So for years now I've driven by a local scrap yard and eyeballed with interest this beasty alligator shear threating to stop by and inquire about it.
Well the other week I did stop and look at it and was stunned at how big it was, then walked away seemingly content.
Well it festered that I didn`t talk to them so I popped back in and actually talked to them about it and they said they were gunna keep it so I walked away happy that I`d seen it through.
Ha! about 10 feet from my car the guy yells out " hang on a minute" I think crap... here we go.
He says there is another one down the road at an old saw mill that is getting cleared and tells me the bloke to see, so off I go :-[
I get there and there`s this even bigger one sitting off to the side under a home made cover.
I have a quick look and hunt down the bloke in charge.
After talking to him about it he gives me a "well shit that`s very doable price" and I say I`ll think about it for a couple of days . I`m walking away and he yells out "it works"..... shit I`m doomed. So I go up to it grab the massive flywheel and give it a yank and sure enough it works so hell I tell him I`ll take it.
The following pix are of the first one.
-
It`s taken a while to organize the move as it`s 13 feet long , 5 feet tall and 4.5 feet wide with a svelte weight of 11,000 lbs.
I had to fix a wheel bearing and straighten up an axle.
We got it loaded and dropped it off today then a rented a hot water pressure washer to clean it. Boy I wish they rented steam cleaners after 2 hrs with most of the time spent scraping decades of oil and dirt as the cleaner wouldn`t budge it, shits like 1/2 of strong glue it`s really hard to get off.
I`ve drenched it in diesel to help break up what's left and I`ll be spending more time cleaning it before I get it in the shop.
Plans... well get it in fill all the oil cups to the top and re grease the wheels then yank that big ol General electric 7.5 motor on and go through it, it spins really nice , sort out the electrics and grab some belts and get it running.
Not sure what the future holds for it but for now I`ll just have fun with it. Maybe open up a circumcision service ? " We clip the tip to make you hip" Yeah I can see it now.

This one is a 44 mine is a 22 not sure of the difference.

Factory literature on this link.

So am I off my rocker? Just could not see this old beasty getting scrapped.
Would be cool to mount it to a trailer and run it with an ol diesel hit and miss engine and take it to tractor shows.
-
That’s pretty sweet. I agree you had to get that baby.
-
Holy Cannoli that's a chunk of iron! I realize I've under estimated your derangement to date. I love it!
-
Nice save jabber! When you find out the capacity of that beast let us know.
-
Click on the link on the post with the last photo.

:-\ do not turn your back on it, the Tyrannosaurus rex of the industrial age LOL Were you sure that was a scrapper and not Jurassic Park?
Pep
-
I know where one of those is, but it is incomplete and looks like it has been sitting in the elements for at least 50 years. Awesome to see one working, even more awesome you got it.
-

I think we have all underestimated his derangement!!
-
Well, you can definitely trim your nails with that!
-
Wow!!! :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Here you go, jab.
This is at the Coolspring Power Museum in Coolspring, PA. (A very interesting place btw).
Lettering on right side reads,
THE CANTON
FDY & MCH CO.
CLEVELAND, O.
NO-2
-
Mmm that one looks a bit older and has extra flywheels.
Wish I could find a museum for mine.
-
You should put a drivetrain on you frame and make a wicked shearmobile to drive around.
-
Drive up circumcision service.....I like it
-
Got it in today...god it`s heavy.
-
And in place. Doesn`t hog up as much space as I thought it would, totally livable albeit a bit stinky.
-
And this is what will happen to Greyson if he gives me anymore lip.
-
A rare view inside the batcave.
It ought to be your hand for the crime of mounting that nice vise too far back from the edge of the bench...

Oh my! Good catch, I could not agree more, plus, it should be mounted on the corner of the bench, never in the middle if a swivel base! :P
-
You cant chop scrap indoors!!! :-\ :-\
-

I think that the shear does work if they need it to. I think they flat belt it off a tractor pto. There was a few chunks of sheared sumthin by it, so it had been used recently.

It would be the most logical choice for power, I agree.

Well it works ok , just didn`t want it sticking out too much catching me every time I walk by it.
-
Bench vise kidney jabs do hurt like a beotch.
So when are all the neighborhood kids coming by to crank on the flywheels so you can make a video of it chomping away?

Mount a bumper type receiver hitch (female side to bottom of bench. Mount vise to a plate of steel (3/8" thick) Then weld the male part of the receiver to the plate of steel the vise is mounted to. This allows you to totally remove the vise until needed. When needed, slide male part into female, stick lock pin in receiver and walla, instant vise just hanging off of your bench.
-
Buck if you want to come over and move that thing around , you welcome. Me I`m getting to old for that.
-
It's a duel voltage motor so I`ll have to figure that out plus I want to pull it apart to clean and check it. I`ll have to see if my converter can run it, then belts so it may be a while.
Plus I`m sick of too many on finished projects so Chomper is relegated to windows of time.
-
Chomper! I like it. ;D
-
Someone should have taken the crayons away.
-
Chomper looks great now!
-
Someone should have taken the crayons away.
Nice one Steve, good art work, and was the image that popped in my mind when I first saw this thing.
............. YOU reading my mind...?.. should not take long LMAO
nice and safe yard art, put in the front yard, hell no one could steel it' ;D
Pep
-
Perfect. just shoot some clear and its done. :D
-
Got most of the motor apart , looks brand new inside, the bearings were made by God they are a thing of beauty , such fantastic quality.
This is the same brand/vintage motor as the one on my drill press, should make a fantastic sound on start up.
-
This effen set screw is all that's keeping me from getting it all apart.
I`ve tried heat, jaffy juice, Kroll . The bolts are out of the collar so the only thing holding on is the pressure from this set screw on the key so I thought I`d just try the puller on it and was rewarded with a broken pulley.
I`ll give it one more day of soaking then I`ll cut the fucker off and find a new pulley.
Having trouble loading the pix

wow. I wish I had one for some reason. I remember one at a scrap yard in my home town. It was on the main drag next to a Chevy/Cadillac dealer. The bldgs. are now gone & I think the site is on an EPA watch list. A "challenged" guy ran the alligator all day long. Local factories hauled shearings & scrap to that yard. There was a Penn. RR siding along the back of the yard most scrap was shipped off by rail. I would love to see your's in action. Please post some videos when you get it running.
-
This ones at Enderby Canada
-
The motor is ready.
-
Just did a trade deal on a 30hp phase converter so the future looks good for Chomper coming alive :)
-
Nice machinery and restore effort. Best of luck!
-
Good golly, what a beast!
I think you should put on a pair of V-8 engines with turbos and take it to a truck rally. "I don't race other trucks - I eat 'em!" :))
-
-
^^^ That's fuking terrifying!!! I love it
-
Cool video but IMHO it needs a Detroit on it. 3-53 maybe ;D
-
Absolutely. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Detroit-Diesel-2-53-Engine-POWER-UNIT-VIDEO-SUPER-CLEAN-253-GM/323909842792?hash=item4b6a87f768:g:M70AAOSwTtJdbCQq

Boy howdy! Talk about the stuff nightmares are made of, huge chompy bits powered by a screaming 2 cycle >:D >:D
-
Dang! I need to see that.
-
You know were I is mate.
-
-
Another beast
-
-
Thinking about changing the v belt pulley to a flat belt pulley.
Anybody got Ideas on where to look?
Fleabay had none.
If I remember the belt surface id was around 6 and the shaft on the motor is 1.633 with a .3600 keyway

-
Never seen one before today, talk about impressive!

I`ve asked for pix , I`ll have to get that cabbage down some thou.
-
that would make chomper a nice powerplant. :93:
-
Probably out of a boat if it's in Warrenton. Do your diligence on whether a marine application engine will work with a standard cooling system.
-
Well really I want a 2v53 anyhow.
Have you found me one yet????????
-
The two cyl Detroit Diesel power plant?
My boss has a runner on a Lincoln site welder that doesn't weld anymore. Its in central Mexico and has been up for sale forever.
-
I`d love that. got pix? Obviously too far away but I`d love to see it.
-
It might be a 2-71 but it is a DD with 12v electric start.
We strip off the welder, frame and hood and put it on a pallet with the radiator. You arrange a trusted international shipping company and they come pick up the pallet. The shipper needs a bill of sale legal to Mexico and Jabber Inc in the states plans on paying a small import tax to Uncle Sam on an "antique engine".
Money makes stuff cross the border. The shipping company will tell you how much.
-
If it`s not too spendy id be interested , lemme know.
-
I'll ask the boss then PM you when I have info.
-
Ok sounds good. Thanks Capt.
-
It is a 2-53 and was sleeved with new rings and injectors. Runs good and the boss wants to make a video of that soon.
A PM is outgoing.
-
This is exactly what I need.... Rural go steal this pls.

This running 3-53 has popped up for 500 . Trying to get it cheaper.
