Propane Griddle.
« on: June 10, 2019, 10:34:38 PM »
I've been watching YouTube and reading into these things and wanted to give it a try.

What is it?

It's a cast iron griddle heated by propane burners.

Why did I buy a griddle?

Unlike a regular grill you can cook just about anything with these. From breakfast to steak, to chicken wings, to even popcorn (yes I've seen it done).

Lot of real estate you can cook on, can fit alot of food in at once.

NO flame ups! I was absolutely sick of flame ups last summer.

Cast Iron will give it's own flavor and little more flavor of the food.

Fairly inexpensive this cost me just about $200.

Things I can see being a con?

Clean up/seasoning. Cleaning is little more involved then just running a wire brush over the grates like in a regular grill.
And just like a cast iron skillet it needs regular seasoning.

I had thought of something else but forgot...

I can see a griddle for certain things, its just a big frying pan. Bacon and eggs, pancakes, home fries etc. I wouldn't cook steaks, chicken, burgers etc on it though

I had a neighbor with one in Louisiana. We use to get up stupid early to go fishing and eat breakfast off one of these. It will make some of the best hash browns you will ever eat. I would make sure you keep it inside though. He kept his in a breezeway and used it almost daily and still fought small rust spots.

We have one at the airport we use for our monthly pancake breakfast. We use the BBQ for the weekly lunches.

Man I hate when you guys talk about food and cooking,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,makes me hungry :))

I am no cook but my first thought was it would be nice with a lid but you can always toss a frying pan lid over what you are cooking.

Have to agree you can cook a lot at one time, perfect for tailgating,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,at the tractor pulls ;)

That's pretty nice. I could see if you wanted to cook a lot at once that would rock. How hard is it to keep clean? oil it down and cover it up?

yep, you can either use a basting/steaming cover (thing a upside down bowl with a handle) or Blackstone actually offers a lid(hood?). they have plenty of accessories for their griddles along with different styles and sizes

He is one of the reasons I pulled the trigger on the griddle. Also The Griddle Guys make some good videos as well.
