unrelated to my question but some operational info. the head can be locked at different angles by pushing the button on the handle. it disengages  a series of pins that go through the head and into the handle.push the pins out with the button. rotate to the desired position and the pins pull back with spring tension to lock the handle and head in position.

Interesting part # on that one. Is this the "11-994" ratchet in the first posts or a different one.

so here is my conspiracy theory. armstrong as well as other brands offered this ratchet. mac, matco and snap-on i believe. all pretty much the same except for the the handle shape. not a big stretch for gearwrench to steal the armstrong handle shape.

that leaves me with sk. did sk make these? i don't think so as sk no longer makes the tuff1 ratchet and this is obviously newer production than when sk was selling the tuff 1 ratchets.

so......... maybe sk never made this mechanism themselves. yes they probably  made the handle and the design was actually robbed from a facom design. did a third party make them all along  and not sk?

yes i know the tuff1 one ratchets are long gone from sk and nobody probably cares.  it still leaves me curious as i always thought sk made them completely in house using facoms help when they were owned by them. maybe, just maybe they didn't .

good catch. the mistake is mine. i mistyped, the number should be 11-996. i edited all of the posts to correct the number. i covered the g to hide it so that it didn't give it away 11-996 was an armstrong number while the gearwrench number added g to make it 11-996g

thanks for reminding me i am human.  :))

I was being deliberately vague myself. Didn't want to ruin the guessing game. But now SK has the rat is out of the bag :lol_hitting:

yea, this may be a stupid topic and maybe nobody cares. but it is a new to me ratchet with an odd design using a mechanism that isn't seen in any other ratchet.

You are probably correct in your assessment Harlan. The intermingling of parts, designs, and construction among the tool manufacturers is widespread - it’s nothing new in US production, but since many parts are now produced in Asia, it makes sense to just pick the best generic parts and just put your brand name on them.
