Seems like more effort than building one from scratch, though I applaud the resourcefulness.

I agree on the too much effort thought.

I have seen that before.  Bought a big pedestal grinder at a sale pretty cheap for what I thought it was.  Turned out, OEM motor was gone and they had rigged up a motor and belt system.  The motor was hidden in the pedestal.  Worked ok and I sold it for a profit but nowhere near what I thought I would ;)
