Calling Bman, need some ideas
« on: January 13, 2020, 06:42:31 PM »
Today I picked up this Husky 1/4 ratcheting combo to turn into a small bit ratchet, and I'm at a loss as to how to implement it.
I can't think of how I to have it hold bits and be as low profile as possible.

I already cut the open end off and put a rubber grip on it that pulled off a small file so I'm all good there, I just can't come up with a good way to use it as a bit ratchet.

Bring on the ideas if you got 'em.

First idea off the top of my head - and I'm getting ready to sit down for supper - is epoxy a strong neodyium magnet on the butt end of a 1/4" hex to 1/4" square adaptor. You can push it thru whichever end you need at the time, the mag will hold the bit to the rotating pat of the box, and yet allow you to remove it easily to switch directions.

I'll mess around with the one I have tomorrow - see if I can get a workable prototype and send it to you. Might be a few days.

of course if you come up with something please have at it.

Not a bad idea for sockets.

I just came up with something for bits that does technically work, but I'd have to modify a whole set of bits.
All I did was put a bit in my vice and hammer a lip onto the back with a ball peen hammer, not it can drop in without falling through.
Of course you have to keep your finger on the back, but it does work.
This would be a great simple solution if I could work for a 1/4 hex-square bit.

I'll keep trying to see if I can come up with a better solution for bits.

This magnet I found is the best solution ice come up with so far.

Holds the bits well enough and doesn't push through.

I'm not too keen on the magnet idea but I'll try it for a while if no better solutions are found.
