Vintage Photo Of The Day
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:05:25 PM »
Figured it would be fun to see a new vintage photo every day.

Try to keep it related to tools.

I'll start!

The cigar is a nice touch. I called my wife to see this and she said the same thing I did - he looks like her dad a little. Only he sold autoparts didn't work on cars.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

looks like a 41 Chevy?  That light is just waiting to drop into that fan.
That's why they are called " Drop lights"
Could have been me in my Ignition shop days.
Good idea for a thread

The guy with the camera look like Chris Economaki -- he was a legendary motor sports reporter for ABC and CBS. He also wrote for many car publications and headed several organizations.

Liked all of these, and that last one,  getting ready to shove an Olds V8 into a 1940 Ford, instant Hotrod

.... a few more. Note that in the early days SUN's advertising campaigns featured their technicians in white or sometimes blue lab coats.  It was meant to impress on the customer that the SUN technician was a trained professional -- akin to a doctor or engineer. SUN had an ad and marketing department that owners re-invent their business model. Clean organized shops along with properly dressed and courteous personnel were at the time considered to be the hallmark of a SUN equipped service center -- no matter how small that business was. SUN provided a lot of pre- and post sale support to their customers; not only on the use of their equipment, but also in the marketing, sales, and promotion of the business.

I've seen the white lab coats in early CAT service literature. Tracked tractors, grease, heavy parts....yeah....that'l stay white for a few minutes.  ;)

Neat photos. I noticed the Mercedes ? star in the Ford grill. That's a 46/47 Hudson chassis they're training on.
Those were " modern " shops back then. Clean was for when you ran out of work and didn't want to be sent home.

.... I pondered that as well, but I think the center hub just fell out or broke off, and someone just put a star in there. It sure looks like a 50's Ford grill, but the star is confusing
