Pawnie finds: 9-17-18
« on: September 17, 2018, 08:31:24 PM »
Found two screw starters (a Craftsman and a Quik Wedge), a long VACO nutdriver, and a nicely home made allen wrench holder. i don't need more screw starters but the Western Forge phillips was nice condition and the construction was nice as well. has a little hour glass thinned section near the tip which allows the two gripping springs to open wider at that point. Smart design. Couldn't leave the Quik-Wedge all covered with paint, and the allen wrench holder was very nice, too, but not a name or number anywhere on it. The four items cost me $2.17. :-\

And I have to apologize to Uncle Buck. When last I posted a pair of my long VACO nutdrivers, UB said he liked those and would have to start watching for a set. I said I didn't think they came any larger than the 1/4" and 5/16" that I had - at least I'd never seen long ones in larger sizes.
Well, today I found a 7/16" and this 1/2". The 7/16" had been modified - the cup on the end was ground down so thin it had cracks at each of the hex corners. So I left it. But I did remember the number (S-146). This 1/2" is pristine, a number S-166. So, UB, I was wrong - there is another set for you to hunt for! :-[

Nice stuff. I especially like the Philips screw starter - those are not too common. Well done!

I didn't know Westermn Forge did such a wide variety of drivers for Sears. But I'm beginning to see them more and more.
I have about a dozen starters but only 2 in phillips. So, this helps beef up the section I'm lacking in.

I haven't seen the many of this type of Philips starter. I have a couple of the Ullman made ones.

Definitely a nice find and worth  the whole $2 all by itself.
