Agreed Steve. That was pretty much the end of the line for Triumph in the US, but the TR6 was a much classier looking ride.

That is a four cylinder. There was a V8 version, the TR8 but not many were sold, at least in the US and was the last of the sports cars under the Triumph name. They made a couple more models into the very early 80's then replaced the real Triumphs with rebadged hondas and that was the ugly end of the line.
BMW now owns the Marque but nothing has been made under it in at least 35 years.

I think the TR8 probably inspired the Subaru XT and it's wedge shape in the late 80's. Sales were pretty poor on that car.

It's possible the TR was the inspiration. The AMC Pacer was supposedly the inspiration for the guy who designed Porsche 928.
