Yesterday I cleaned some tools and got them put up for sale. Then went with the kids to a new BBQ place in town.

Today I have to fix the toilet (not related in any way to yesterdays BBQ!!!). The stupid flapper valve seperated from its pivot arm mechanism. Sounds weird but it has a plastic frame that the top of the plug pushes into. I assume this is to allow the plug to center itself and the rigid frame to last longer than the rubber one piece flapper valve.  Unfortunately where the plug snaps into the frame wore out and now the plug just sits there while the frame goes up and down.  So it's off to Lowes in a little bit.

But first we have to wait for the roofing company to send out a guy to check out a small leak that has developed by the front door. New roof installed about year and half ago.  Called them and they're sending someone out right away, so that's promising.....

Lots of rain here lately.
Going to be a lot of grass cutting soon.
I'll go buy lawn fertilizer tomorrow.
Spring-like weather already here.
Getting too old for all the things to do, so I'll be hiring someone to help me.
yes sir, no sir, no excuse sir

Spent the past week just out of Houston learning a new SCADA system. I learned that you can teach an old dog new tricks but it makes the old dogs head hurt really bad.  :(

Got up early this morning and wife and I picked up the Ohio plant manager at the shop who has been here all week and took him to Reno to catch his flight home. Stopped on the way home at a casino and got a full breakfast w/coffee for $1.03 w/our coupon and got back home before sunrise. Did give the waitress a $5 tip since we got $10 off the meal.

Had to do some servicing on my 1985 model lawn mower. Found it parked out beside a commercial dumpster probably 10 years ago. Does my yard every season since. Wouldn't run well yesterday first time out for the summer, so I figured the carb needed some cleaning. Cleaned the air filter, refilled with fresh oil, did a quick once over.

Man did alot of black gunk come out of that thing! Ran better after re-installation. Probably need to look into getting a rebuild kit for it. The rubber diaphragm for the choke and o-rings are starting to look dry.

Serviced the Plymouth with my helper. Installed my old CB radio in it too. Need a SWR meter to tune the antenna yet.

Went for ice cream after dinner.

Friday set up for a 250km enduro race our club is running.

The farm we are on is called Castle Craig because these rocks look like the castle in Scotland of the same name.

It is near the Waitomo Caves in limestone country and is in the middle of nowhere.

Track on the west side of hill.

Track on the east side of the hill, after crossing the hill.

Track runs through the trees.

Some locals.

The farmer's Suzuki SJ410.

I stayed the night at the campground at Waitomo Caves. This is the sign at the gate to remind tourists to drive on the proper side of the road.

Saturday - Castle Craig 250km Enduro. Eighteen 14km laps.

Competitors turning up.

Line up before the start.

I marshaled on the west side of the hill. They raced down the left side of the paddock and back up the right before turning and heading up over the hill.

Class 9 - out after hitting the end of a culvert, bending the steering and blowing a tyre.

The octopus on the back of the Beatle. It is the same on the other side. Twin turbo V6 3.0l Nissan.

Changed the shifter in my Mustang. Someone hacked a  Hurst in there, butchered the tunnel to get it in there. I got a Used Competition Plus and spend a few hours this weekend getting it in. Needed google to figure it out as I had to change everything. Took awhile to get it adjusted. Shifts nice but not sure I like the length of the shifter. The shifter is old so the lever doesn't just unbolt. I needed the right shifter as I found a used console to put in it. It was in an Automatic car so I have to modify it and correct top plate. Next project is TCP power rack and pinion and tilt column.

Cut up a perfectly good shelf.

I was looking for a couple easy/relatively inexpensive 6' workbenches. After 2 months of nothing on CL, I broke down and bought this pallet rack style (only in looks; it's made of the finest rolled beercan material) shelf for $150 and then took the suicide wheel to it.

I'm putting a 2x6 and 3/4 plywood top on it so I used one of the mesh shelves welded to the legs to re-stiffen it up. The welder was a little overkill. .045" NR211 fluxcore out of the suitcase off the XMT304. Jumper cables, a battery, and 1/16th 6011 would probably been quicker to drag out lol.

Of course nothing ever goes easy. My tablesaw is 220V and I didn't have NEMA 6-20 extension cord, so I had to whip one up. Garbage freight 12ga cord with the ends hacked off. Spliced into the box on the other end. My electrical engineer buddy just groans when I send him pics like this. I told him I was Mr. Safety because I sprung the extra 78 cents for the outlet box so I didn't get bit picking it up.  :))

It went to raining so the project is postponed until that quits for a day (probably July here in the PNW).

Yeah, that enlarged hole in the floorboard looks like a major hack alright. Guess he figured the boot would cover it, and he wanted the Hurst shifter.

Nothing ever goes like you planned. That's why I usually have a plan B (and C) going into a project, just to deal with the inevitable malfunctions.
78 cents? Last of the big time spenders, eh?  ;D
