Picked this up at auction Saturday for $20.00 and only one socket is incorrect and I have it. Note the short extensions are under the long extension and the blow mold case shows that is correct.

Saw one of these sets on the bay recently for crazy money but man I wanted it.
Helluva steel for $20 and is full of capability if you plan to use it.
The permanex cases replaced these some time in the 70's so I'd guess late 60's early 70's or so.

I would have paid $20 too and I'm not even a big Craftsman fan. Nice grab!

Agreed! Very nice snag. :)

That is a nice set.

I paid $49.99 for the same set at Sears in 1972 or 1973. It was on sale. Many small engines & bicycles got better because of it. It is still in the top drawer of my grey & red Craftsman base. I don't think I ever broke a socket. A couple of the screwdriver bit inserts were replaced over the years, but the socket parts are still original. The empty rectangle in the center held the set of 5 socket magnets & an Allen wrench for the insert bit set screws. The last set on ebay sold for $145 + shipping. All in all you got a fantastic deal!!!

Wow!! what a deal.
-
Cool,
Nice score. You got the good shit in that set... no fillers :-\
-
I agree, great score and darn handy

Even better to get for a steel and happen to have what it's missing.
The deal becomes less sweet with every thing you've got to buy to complete it.
-
That is a cool set.
-
Forgot to mention, there was also a sliding rod for the breaker bar. Few ever used them & they are almost always missing.
-
I have one around somewhere, where was it stored, in the tray??

Crazy good deal you got and it was the dream set I wanted in the late 1970's. Alas all I could afford was a very basic set so I just accumulated all the rest of the goodies piecemeal through the years as I could. Even now I would give a good sum to get that box, or the Snappy version and insert to fill with goodies if I could! LOL

Uncle Buck---Interesting that you just posted when at another auction I bought a box lot with some of the same sockets etc in it. If you are looking for something to fill out your accumulation let me know and I will send them to you.
