GENERAL TOOL AND MACHINE DISCUSSION / Re: Porter-Cable 330 sander screw from hell

I think they are happy.  Spawning.  Down the sidewalk and on the road back to Rockwell/Porter-Cable after decades of service.

The 4 rubber posts on the Porter Cable Type 2 which is a newer machine are supple and don't vibrate like the 40 year old plus Rockwell Type 1.  So the newer version follows follows the old out of respect.

Trying to date the 330 with the Rockwell logo.  According to Google. Rockwell bought PC around 1960.  It had been known as 330A, then Type 1, and then Type 2.  The Rockwell International name was in use around 1973 and that is the name on my Type 1.  Rockwell sold PC around 1981 to Pentair. Pentair sold to Black & Decker in 2004, and then merged with Stanley in 2010.

So my unfounded conclusion is that the jumping Rockwell Type 1 was made between 1973 - 1981

Reminded myself how important it is to clean out the king trap beyond just the screen, and practically filled my shop vac with lint in the process.

Anyone need some tinder to start their fireplace  :))

Soak those rubber posts in lacquer thinner, they`ll soften back up.

Screw a plate of steel over it to patch the crack and hold the halves together.

Maybe furnace cement under the steel plate?  Is it leaking smoke?

Couldnt find a  Camillus site.  Blade is stamped Camillus, Utica, 2 blades, 2 openers,  not really any wear, or oversharpening.  Reminds me of  the Boy scout knife.  More I carry it,  better it works, also dividers are brass.
