Ratchet repair
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:39:16 PM »
As alot of you know I repair ratchets for people. Sentimental value, repair parts NLA, just a challenge :D

Well, about 6 years ago someone sent me a Craftsman 1/2" drive LLTD rat that the selector knob was snapped off. I tried to find a donor rat or rebuild kit - nada. It being a "D" shaft pawl didn't make things any easier. So I repaired his existing knob.

I drilled a hole in the remaining knob body, and inserted a steel pin to act as an anchor.

I figured 2 part epoxy would be the best solution for this, so, mixed up a little blob and applied it. I rotated the knob around, letting gravity form the drop of epoxy into close to the desired shape, and kept flipping it around until the stuff hardened.

I then shaped and filed the drop until it approximated the original, and then painted it silver. Looked fine, worked great!

Nice work!

I probably would have chucked it into the bottom of the toolbox until I was able to source the parts or find a stripped version of the ratchet...
