Magnetic trays. You can never have enough.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

i just ordered a wera bitcheck kit  from kc tool. on sale for 55.99. sae or metric with a bit ratchet, handle, bit holder, bits and sockets. all in a handheld case.

if you don't have one, a chapman bit set is hard to beat. the large set is 99 bucks and covers most things. their bits are well regarded for gunsmithing work and i know you have an interest in that as well.

it shows as out of stock but i am sure they would honor the price. i have been wanting one of them for a long time and have never seen them that cheap. i actually ordered mine from amazon las week for i think for 62, tipped off by toolgyuyd and the kctool deal popped up a couple days after. the kctool deal is supposed to be good through cyber monday.

If you don't have a battery drill and impact driver, Ryobi's are about $100 for a kit and I like mine a lot.  Actually own 3 of them, haha

A cordless soldering iron if you do electrical work. I have a butane fired Blue Point that I really like.

A good set of Thomas and Betts crimpers.

A pair of the biggest Channellocks such as the 460's or what they call the 480 Bigazz tongue and groove pliers. I couldn't live my 460's.

DeadNutz beat me too it. A bid azz pair of Channellock's and a really big prybar can't be beat. A lot of folks will say it's overkill until they use them.

Handi-clamps. Love those things. Get a variety of sizes - you'll keep finding new uses for them.

I will second or third the big channel locks and the Thomas and betts crimpers.  Both great tools that will get used and last a lifetime plus in casual use

Yep, those are da bomb!!  When you make a crimp with those, you can feel its right compared to the cheaper kind that kinda smash the lug closed.

Jafe,

Thanks for posting the pic's.

I have one of these and they do make a great crimp. Unfortunately I've completely worn the wire cutter tips down to the point they "no worky no more".  I'm hoping I can file/grind the wire cutter tips back into usable shape again.

They are good ones. Hope you can resharpen the cutters. Please post up how you do it.

I have tried to resharpen the cutters with some limited success.  Use a file and take your time.  Now that I think of it, a dremel with a stone may work well, but again, take your time and grind lightly, that way if you get out of shape a bit, you can reshape without much effort.

I think the key to keeping them sharp is to stay after them, not wait till they are dull.  Easier to dress the edge a bit now and then rather then do a major sharpening at one time.

Jafe & Fat's,

I don't know if you've noticed, but wire cutters are typically BITCH hard.  They laugh at files :o

A small Dremel stone or sanding disk may be the best bet.  I'm going to give my Dremel a go...

Ah yes, I have noticed :))  I have had some luck going over them several times and switching types of files a few times.  The files start to semi bite and will dress the edge.  I know its a lot of effort but hey,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,don't we all get a kick out of saving a tool despite it not being worth the effort?

I will try a dremel and stone next time.
