Title: Massey Ferguson Hand Tools
Post by: ScoutDriver on March 18, 2023, 11:31:33 AM
Some Massey Ferguson hand tools that I have picked up over the years.  Similar to International Harvester, these tools were made by Wright.

Nice!

That ratchet has a New Britain vibe to me, based on the selector knob.

Did it say Proto, or Challenger by Proto?

Reminds me of a Challenger.

You're right this ratchet is much closer to the PROTO Challenger ratchets, it has the kind of thinner less beefy/ bulky selector seen on some of the Challenger stuff.
It's kind of in between the Challenger and P&C 100 ratchets.

Either way, it's definitely a product of PROTO .

Hate to rain on your Massey Ferguson parade, but MF in a short rectangle is Millers Falls.  I'm sure the ratchet, adjustable wrench and probably the plier is all Millers Falls.   :c023:

These look to be the same logo as the MF wrench roll though, and I haven't seen a Millers falls ratchet / socket set before.

Notice that the roll is MF, but the wrenches themselves are standard WRIGHT.
I don't know what that means as far as the wrenches being original to the roll or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

Best I have seen, the wrenches were branded Wright and sold in the Massey Ferguson roll.

Millers Falls was a great company beginning back in the 1800's.  They sold mainly wood working tools. However, as the 1900's moved on into later years they decided to start selling mechanics tools (a bad decision).  They went the way of Sears and had others make them.  All the tools they had others make had the mark MF in a short rectangle.  As I collect tools, mainly adjustable wrenches and socket sets I have in my collection two socket sets with the MF mark.  One is 1/4"-3/8" drive and the other is 1/2" drive.  Both sets are in black composite plastic boxes and date to the 1960's. On the outside of the boxs it says "Millers Falls" and also "The safest name in tools". Again, all the tools inside the boxes are marked MF in a short rectangle.

I was able to find this online.
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-millers-falls-usa-19-piece-2097360802
It looks like a rebranded PROTO challenger ratchet.
