Do i need a bigger hammer

So my biggest hammer is a 32oz deadblow ball pein and the shop supplies a 8lb and 20lb steel handled sledge. Do i need any bigger then i have or less then the shops. Im eyeballing the trustycook offerings for their blemished

Wilton do some nice like short handle sledges… I have one and feels good in the hand !

nice hammer i just purchased a 4lb sledge off amazon with a 16in handle if i use it alot ill buy a wilton r

Don't bother buying a different new one.
 A 4# with a 16- or 18-inch handle will do almost everything you need to do.   Buy a good old head with a broken handle at an auction or sale & rehang a new cut down handle to the length of your preference.  The old head won't mushroom out like new ones & you can take pride in creating your own tool.

I have a 4 lb estwing drilling hammer that usually does the trick on stubborn stuff. It's nice long handle comes in handy when you have someone either brave or stupid enough to hold the drift pin and you can use two hands....

x2 on the find a broken unit. I carried this old sledge around for almost thirty yrs and finally cut the broken handle down into a shorty.

And the piece of handle that you cut off makes a good beating block.  Square cut both ends & use it to install seals, freeze plugs, etc.
Never throw away a good scrap of hickory.

a 4-5 lb maul with 10"-12" overall length is one of my most used hammers.

When more persuasion is needed. I can always break out 30lb with a full handle, I have it in a corner gathering dust and if I never pick it up again in my life it wont upset me.

my dad did something similar to me the other day i refused i got a giant pair of channelocks to hold it so my hands were outta danger

They do make chisel holders. Heck I don't even trust myself to hold a punch or chisel and hit it hard
