As elusive and holy as they are I don't think the SOHC were as good as could be.

  A couple of thoughts

Gear-driven cams are more accurate, with a severe whining sound. One can hear a V8 gear drive car coming down the road 3 blocks away, very distinctive.

Chain-driven cams have their noise, both of these motors are 18-valve DOHC.

Not elusive today is holy and common my 32-valve, DOHC, fuel injected...... V8

Gears are definitely more accurate and durable as evident by diesel engines.

Just a whole lot of rotating mass involved there.

Yes, and now sold as a factory built engine for the likes of me. And why I bought the GT
