ive used this stuff in the past to make things easier to hold. May work for you, may not.

Oh yeah, the good ole "hockey tape", so named cause they use to use it on hockey stick handles to provide the players with better grip.
This isn't hokey tape unless I have been wrong about what that stuff is.
This is the sandpaper grip tape like you see on skateboards.

I think this is going to be a winner if it holds up.

Even if it doesn't hold up forever I've got a whole roll of the stuff to redo it with.
