All those new gun owners can't find ammo --
« on: June 26, 2020, 01:55:31 PM »
It's somewhat ironic that in the last few months many folks have become new gun owners, yet at this very moment there is an acute shortage of the most popular handgun and rifle ammunition. All the online ammunition search engines are pointing to zero inventories across the board, and even locally owned gun and sporting goods/retail stores are out of stock.

Truly interesting and worrying times that most people have never experienced before.

How is the local ammo situation in your area?

.22lr surplus at normal prices(post 2012 normal anyways) I bought 1050rnd @ walmart on sale for $29.99 last week, lots of .22lr around.

5.56 gone

.223 brass gone

.233 steel can be found and at reasonable prices. (bought 200rnd this week $4.24 per 20) I guess the red block nations will keep supply of the cheep shit just to see what will happen  :D

.308/7.62x51 good selection but I dont buy it

7.62x39 very good selection I dont buy it

9mm getting tight, im only seeing self deffence or steel case. I have not bought any in a while I have plenty.

.38/.357 good selection

.45 down to self defence in most places

.40 seems to be every where in many varities, I guess the .40 is no longer cool

12ga all gone but for the mini shells and steel water fowl loads.

hunting calabers like 270,30-30, 22-250, 243, and the new loads like 6.5 and 350 legend are abundant.

Everything got wiped out during the china flu rush, the riot rush has not been as bad but we dont have many riots out here.

Not much on the shelves around here. some few handgun rounds but mostly the high dollar self defense rounds. I picked up a couple of 243 boxes last week. been wanting to sight in my deer gun.

A buddy reloads for me and he was saying that even the components are getting hard to get. He told me I have @300 JHP for my .38 left and maybe 2000 for the 556. Gonna have to start surfing the web. I get kinda nervous when I start running low.

My pesonal stash of defense rounds is good, but any plinking I do for the next while is going to be the odd-ball stuff; .22mag, .32-20, .30 Luger, 16 gauge, .35Rem, etc. Its a good thing I like weird stuff, it works and is plentiful.

Just looked on ammoseek.com and was shocked to see that there is absolutely no steel cased 223 Rem. ammunition to be found. This has to be the first time that has happened.

Just out of curiosity I tracked a 1000rd case of steel-cased Tula .223 55gr. FMJ on gunbroker.com last week. Last bid before it sold was at $430. I'm guessing the final sales price was even higher than that. These are very interesting times --

Even components are on back oreder. I ordered 500 rd of Speer xtp? for my 38 EDC. but finding local primers is not gonna happen. I hate paying the hazmat fee when its more $$ than what I am buying. :c002:

Isn't that how it always goes? When you've got a good gun there's no ammo. When an ammo is cheap it's not for the gun you have.  :38:

I'm glad I stocked up on new production Lake City 5.56 about 10 years ago for a cheaper price than the steel Wolf was selling for.

The supply is definitely drying up. Oddly enough I still see .22lr sitting on the shelf (lots of it), but all of the other pistol and any type AR/AK ammo is gone. Only 12 ga I could find over the weekend was mini shells and waterfowl loads. I did find 3 cases of lake city 5.56, they would only sell it by the case $899.99 for 1640 rnds.

Not much left around here. 12ga hunting loads, large caliber rifle rounds, some misc. rim fire (22sr, 17hmr, and 22lr match)

Local gun shop owner is telling me it will be next summer before stuff is fully stocked to pre rona levels, maybe prices will come back to reality by q3-4 2021..................and this all depends on the election.

Ammo is super easy to find. 4am est cabelas and bsp have ammo for regular prices. Simmons sporting goods also has ammo 3 times a week. Bought 12,000 of 9mm and 10,000 of 5.56 the last month.

Was in Sportsman Warehouse last Saturday as the wife wanted to get a few things. One box of .44 Special was the only pistol ammo on the shelves. There was plenty of rifle ammo but only in the hunting calibers and it was the high dollar stuff. Two boxes of .223 on the shelf but it was that Blue stuff at $30 for 20 rounds. Plenty of pistols, rifles and shotguns in stock but no buyers while we were there.

I have noticed a shift in who I see buying guns. For the past 6 months it was moms, mr moms, and urban folks. Now I am seeing the normal crowd of beards and and "from my cold dead hands" t-shirt wearing crowd. I think they are stocking up for worst case politically. The only ammo I see is 7mm, 38 auto, 9mm mak, .50 bmg. Now AR mags are starting to dry up as well.

Was in our local farm supply store.  Last 2 years the ammo shelves have been full, pistol, rifle, and shotgun.  Now it is over half empty, 9mm, 243, 22-250, all gone.  Very little 12 ga. left.  Since it is upland hunting season,  not surprised to see the shotgun stuff gone.  Check-out lady said they are not receiving shipments of ammo for the past few weeks, havent gotten an answer why.  Reorganized my ammo shelf,  am good.  Moved my two main rifle cal. for better access.  Just cautious,  no neighbors and 10 miles from town.
