Ever get " excited " when you see a tool ?
« on: March 24, 2021, 08:28:44 PM »
I was at the hardware store today and I saw something I had never seen before, and it almost made me wish I had a book I could cover myself with.
Luckily I contained myself,  picked my jaw up off the floor, and walked out with my dignity in tact.

I could do without them and have not pulled the trigger yet, but I don't think I have ever been as in awe of a tool as I was when I saw these Hickok bypass loppers.

They're about $75 if I'm not mistaken,  I've got the money and I know they'll likely be a lifelong tool but it's kind of a hard purchase to justify.
It's not that much money,  but it just seems like a lot for a pair of loppers.

My logic is always to take only the cost into account and if it's not a whole lot of money then it shouldn't matter what the item is, but I'm just not sure I need a $75 pair of loppers.

Well, you're a better man than I. Whenever I see a tool that lights up my eye I usually buy it.

I'm thinking of going back and buying them, since I realized that Corona has a similarly priced pair that's imported I'm a bit less apprehensive about the price.

Btw I just realized that picture is for the vine loppers, not the standard branch loppers.

Well I just couldn't resist.
Btw they were $70, not $75.

And this is probably the biggest reason these drew me in.

I just could not stop thinking about them.

Sounds like you should stay away from the YMCA for a while.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

Not sure I've ever gotten that excited over a tool.  :lol_hitting: Cars maybe but not tools. :steeringwheel:

I bought a set of loppers back 25+ yrs ago. probably every bit as expensive as yours and they've been the best. NEVER loan them to someone else, you wont get them back. I had to go hunt mine down twice. :character0029:

I've got some cheap old beaters I could loan or just give them if I had to.

I justify stuff like that by figuring they will last ten yrs and dividing the cost by ten. This makes me feel better about the pricey stuff.

If this don't give you a chub for American made goodness I don't know what will.

You can see they made sure to put the USA in a different spots on them, and they made sure the USA was deeply forged into the lower jaw too.

You just gotta love it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Hickock is the OEM for Stihl.
