My dad needs help remembering
« on: January 02, 2019, 06:25:14 PM »
Ok, so bear with me on this.
My dad needs help rembering the name of a store chain we used to have around here in NorCal ( and I'm sure elsewhere ) which he and my grandfather used to shop at and where he had purchased the toolbox for the back of the Nissan pickup he used to have.

There was one in woodland California and one in Yuba City California, and they were along the lines of a Tractor supply co. They carried workwear and animal feed as well as tools I guess.
I vaguely remember going in once when he bought his toolbox but I was a little kid and couldn't even begin to know what they were called.
What I remember really reminds me of the TSC last time I was there, but he swears it wasn't Tractor supply.
In looking at a list of defunct retailers he saw nothing that rung a bell, so I suppose there's a chance they are still around but just not anywhere near us.

If any of you can remember such a store I'd love to be able to tell him the name of it , not that it's important but I'm sure as you all know when you can't remember something you can't let it go until you do.

Before TSC was around, there was a similar company called "Family Farm Center" -- They were on the East Coast and in the Mid-West, not sure about the West Coast though.

Hopefully.

Oh and I gotta throw a wrench in the gears, apparently my dad bought his first VCR at this place.

I was starting to think maybe it was TSC and he was remembering wrong since apparently the one in Yuba City is now a TSC,  but I doubt they ever had VCR's.

That's what I had been thinking, but the OSH is still there and  is where I often go for things the hardware here in town doesn't have. I love their " we pay the sales tax " days.

The fact that my dad rembers buying his first VCR at this store really throws an wrench in things for sure.

Could be he's not remembering that part correctly?

He may be remembering wrong, but he swears up and down that he's not.
He keeps saying he'll know right away when he hears the name of it, but I don't think he will.
I was probably 5 or 6 when I went in the place and all I remember was  seeing those galvanized steel wash bins and two big red racks of truck toolboxes in the back left corner.

The only thing I really remember from that area is Reibes. But that was auto parts and they have merged with NAPA.

I remember that name.

Now just because it wasn't on any lists doesn't mean it's still around, just that the list creator had never heard of it.

Does anyone know if there were any Big R stores here in northern California ?

Because my dad mentioned something red and R, Big R came up in a Google search and they're exactly what he described.
