Old fashioned candy thermometer
« on: August 29, 2019, 11:01:53 PM »
You all know my preference for old school analog test equipment.
Found an analog candy thermometer last week. Goes to 400 deg. Glass body, blue alcohol tube that looks soldered into the base bulb. Check it in a pot of boiling eggs today - leveled off around 210-212.

I'm thinking of using it to test furnace exhaust temps. Normal draft gas furnaces operate at around 450 on the flue, but high efficiency units are supposed to stay under 300. So, I'm thinking it might just work.

Any opinions? Will hot gas trigger the thing like hot liquid?
