Our county asks to re-open from shutdown
« on: May 01, 2020, 08:52:51 AM »
Douglas County NV where we live wants to re-open due to our reported infection rate of .0002%. Yesterday 100 people including our county commissioners caravanned up to Carson City with a Sheriff escort to the Capitol to make themselves heard. Our county ranked the best in the state in following the social distancing and other recommendations. The video has some great shots of our empty downtown.

Be careful what you wish for.  Opening up piecemeal might be an issue if folks from other areas come streaming into your county because its open and infecting others.  Think of the salesman who brought it into Maine.

I am all for getting businesses back and running.  We need folks working but piecemeal unless you can block your county borders could spell trouble.

We only have 4 paved roads coming into our county but 3 of them come from CA and they use the 4th to enter our county to shop at the north end. Many people travel from CA even driving more than 100 miles as we are the closest big stores and doctors/specialists.
Our Governor did let golf courses and tennis courts open because you know how important it is to play pickleball which he mentioned. He is also allowing retail businesses to open as long as they do curbside pickup. I don't see the casinos opening anytime soon but maybe in 2 weeks or a month as that is for the gaming control board to decide and nobody else's opinion matters.

Main worry is all of the numbers a waaaayyyyy low everywhere.  With only the sickest and frontline workers being tested the number of actual cases is unknown.  Add in the asymptomatic cases and the it's hayfever or a cold cases.  If we're not careful things will totally go to pot.

Yet we also need to get the country back to working.

The problem we have in Maine is, its about to be summer. We have 5 months to make a years worth of money  from out of staters. Where do they come from, NY, NJ, Mass, Penn, etc some of the worst hit places in the US. While I want them to come and spend there money, I don't want their Covid to come with them. I'd be shocked if some redneck Mainer doesn't shoot some New Yorker who is thought to have Covid or in a small store buying all the toilet paper. Seriously! .  A tree was dropped on a driveway to keep New Yorkers in their home by armed Mainers already. I have a POS neighbor from NJ that just showed up, by law they are supposed to Quarantine for 14 day. Doesn't mean shit, they are in the same stores I have to go in.

Texas just started opening up today is the first day for "limited seating" at restraunts Already made reservations at our fave Italian place for lunch tomorrow.

The feed store that I've been doing business with for 40+ years was taking orders in the parking lot previously, Today the office is open again, yay! till I go in and get told I have to wear a mask or go back out side. Turned around got back in the truck and left. Took my $140 a week feed bill to a competing feed store, the owner walked out and shook my hand.

Times are a changing for sure,

Restaurants can start limited re-opening here on May 12th. But I don't expect alot of customers. Too many people are spooked and it will take several months I think to allay their fears. Also, movie theaters are probably not going to open they say until mid-summer, if then.
And with many people skittish about handling money I'm expecting cashiers to refuse cash for a while and only take CC or SNAP cards. Because I've heard more than once that cash can spread the virus. :c002:
That happens and I'll be going to the bank to withdraw more cash! Soon enough many people's CC will max out and get denied - then the stores will take the cash. They'll just spray it with sanitizer first!  :lol_hitting:

They want you to use CC as the cashier doesn't have to touch it, you take all the risk of Covid if someone ahead of you in line left some virus on the card reader.

No issues using cash around here. When we tip the servers picking up our takeout meals they gladly pocket the large tips but we pay for the meal with a card.

Cash is king around here. We have too many illegals who don't trust the banks with their money. We have check cashing companies around here just to cash checks for illegals. Ever try to cash a check without a bank account? you cant. The companies charge a small percentage to cash a check. probably only 10-15%.   :lol_hitting:

OK, this is NOT allowed to become a food blog!

(that looks good though, and like you I am spending a bit with local restaurants and breweries, because I don't want them to close)

Our Governor is implementing a Phase 1 reopening for businesses. He still feels a need to micro manage how we conduct ourselves.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO)-- Gov. Steve Sisolak said some businesses can reopen Saturday with restrictions.
Here is the list:

Phase One
RESTAURANTS:
• Restaurants are strongly encouraged to continue curbside, delivery, and/or pickup operations.
• Restaurants are allowed to open dine-in under strict social distancing requirements:
o Self-service stations (salad bars, beverage stations, etc.) are NOT permitted
o Restaurants shall require employees to wear face coverings and should encourage customers to wear face coverings, to the maximum extent practicable
o In-person or on-premises dining is limited to no more than 50% of available seating capacity, excluding bar seating (table and bar top seating).
o Reservations should be required when practicable to better achieve social distancing requirements
o Tables or available booths must be spaced at least 6 feet apart.
o Bar tops & bar areas within restaurants remain closed (can serve drinks at table)
o If waiting to be seated, patrons must wait outside and practice social distancing.
PUBS, WINERIES, BARS & BREWERIES that serve food can continue curbside, pick-up, and/or carry out operations. If the establishment is licensed to and serves food in a restaurant-like setting, it may open up to do so based on general restaurant restrictions (above) with bar-tops and bar areas closed to drinking and eating
BARBER SHOPS, HAIR SALONS & NAIL SALONS
Barber Shops, hair salons & nail salons may open under strict social distancing requirements:
• Partitions or walls between each chair/workstation are strongly encouraged.
o If there are partitions or walls between each chair/workstation, then each chair/workstation can be used at any given time.
o If there are no partitions or walls between each chair/workstation, the business must only use every other chair/workstation or arrange seating to be at least 6 feet apart to create separation and achieve social distancing.
• Services shall be provided by appointment only.
• Customers waiting for appointment must wait outside and practice social distancing.
• Stylists, technicians, barbers and other employees must wear face coverings. Customers or clients should wear face coverings to the extent practicable.

RETAIL BUSINESSES:
***ALL retail businesses – regardless as to whether they were defined as “essential” or “non-essential” in previous directives – must abide by the Phase 1 Statewide Standards for retail businesses below and listed in the Phase 1 directive.***
Businesses shall require employees who interact with the public to wear face coverings and should encourage customers to wear face coverings, to the extent practicable.
• Retail businesses are strongly encouraged to promote and continue online or call-in ordering, curbside, delivery, and/or pickup operations.
• Retail businesses are strongly encouraged to consult and implement industry best practices.
• Retail businesses shall limit the number of customers in their facility at any given time to no more than 50% of allowed occupancy based on applicable fire code.
• Appliance, furniture, and home furnishing showrooms may reopen; must not exceed 50% of allowed occupancy based on applicable fire code.
Malls:
• Open air malls may open with strict social distancing requirements.
• Indoor malls remain closed to the public, but may establish an outdoor curbside or pick-up operation to the extent practicable, following strict social distancing requirements.
Automobile, ATV, Recreational Vehicle Dealers:
Encourage appointment only; test drives allowed if only customer or customer household member(s) - no dealership representative in/on the vehicle; showroom areas open to the public must not exceed 50% of allowed occupancy based on applicable fire code.
Entertainment:
• Drive-in movie theatres may resume operations provided that they follow strict social distancing protocols.
CANNABIS: Under the Governor’s previous executive order, retail cannabis dispensaries were able to offer curbside sales. Under the Phase 1 directive, that will be expanded to include the ability to conduct in-store sales under the following guidance from the Marijuana Enforcement Division / Cannabis Compliance Board:
• Retail cannabis dispensaries are encouraged to continue curbside, delivery and pick-up operations.
• May conduct in-store sales after submitting plan and receiving approval from the Marijuana Enforcement Division. Must adhere to strict social distancing requirements.
o Retail businesses shall limit the number of customers in their facility at any given time to no more than 10 customers or 50% of allowed occupancy based on applicable fire code; whichever is fewer.
o Consultations virtually or by phone / email whenever possible.
• Employees will be required to wear face coverings; facilities must turn away any customer refusing to wear a face covering.

Local Government and businesses can impose stricter social distancing requirements than the statewide standards
In line with the federally supported, state managed and locally executed response and recovery plan, COUNTY GOVERNMENTS are empowered to tailor specific restrictions on business and public life, as long as those restrictions do not go below the strict standards the state issues in the Phase 1 reopening standards.
BUSINESSES are empowered to impose stricter social distancing requirements than the statewide standards, as they deem necessary or appropriate.
Local governments are EMPOWERED TO ENFORCE the provisions of this Directive, including the intent, and are strongly encouraged to consult the guidance developed by the Local Empowerment Advisory Panel (LEAP

So, how is one supposed to eat while wearing a mask?    :017: :41: :D

I guess the fantastic buffets in Vegas are out.  :38:

They are gonna drag this horse crap out until November so as many businesses fail (and people get pissed) as possible and take it out on Trump. So they think.

Since the non-essential folks have been allowed back to work but the restraunts are still only at 25% seating, the drive thru have been horrible. I started packing my lunch. I haven't done that in several years.

They auto deduct a lunch from me each day but if I don't leave I never get away from the desk, phone, computer, idiots from admin and so on :character0029: :character0029: I'm thinking next week I'm gonna take a nap in the truck during lunch. :015:

Well I'm "scheduled" for a haircut tomorrow. I've been waiting to see if they were going to open, and noticed a new sign on their door yesterday. Call for an appointment, wear a mask,  :ecomcity:
Called yesterday morning around noon, they were already booked up into next week! But one of the ladies had an opening for Saturday at 1:30 PM, so I took it. I hate all the restrictions but what can you do? Been at least 10 weeks and I'm looking shaggy.  :c002:
