Is this a military tool box?
« on: July 04, 2022, 11:54:23 AM »
Please ignore the Stanley sticker - I'm sure that was added by previous owner.  Could this be a military box?  The latch is similar to another WWII era tool box I have.
Thanks
Al

Could be a toolbox, but back in the day a lot of power tools such as routers and circular saws were sold with metal boxes. They were expensive tools and companies made sure the investment was well protected

Circular saw,  router, or belt sander etc. box would be my guess as well.

Other questions, is the Stanley logo original?  Did Stanley make power tools in that era? (assuming its from 40s or 50s maybe 60s?)

You just need the saw, instructions, and saw guide in order to be in the game!

After dad passed, I inherited both his tools, and my grandfather's as well. Gramps was a wood butcher his whole life, he was a framing carpenter by trade. Anyway,  one of his tools that  I inherited was a Stanley circle saw, I would assume mid 50's vintage. No steel box, still in it's doggy cardboard box with its original paperwork.  Not surprised at the lack of a steel box. Gramps was not too well heeled so he was probably doing good just getting the new saw!

I forgot, years ago I did pick up a very old Stanley worm drive saw, complete and in a blue original Stanly factory labeled tool box. I estimated it to be 50's vintage or possibly even older. The damned thing is a beast, weighs a ton, and would likely wear you out using it for a day! I  have never used it though it is in great shape. It is ungrounded and all aluminum.
If you weren't a man before using that one you would be after a couple of days use for sure!
