Nice shear. A pneumatic version would be the tops.

Heinrich punch

Push me-pull you grinder I built back in high school when I only had one motor. Belt sander worked OK, but lacked crown on the wheels.

Ultra precision drill grinder

$20 homemade 6x48 belt sander

I'll play. First off is the Rockwell/Delta 20" drill press. It has a 120V Craftsman motor that has adjustable speeds and reverse.
2nd is the Buffalo No. 15 drill press w/1725 motor. This sees the most use as a hole deburrer using a countersink.

Next up is the wife's Burr King 2"x60" belt sander. This is an oldie but sometimes ran 8hrs per day deburring parts. I can still get replacement wheels from Burr King even though this is an early BurrMaster model.
2nd is a CM 6" block grinder. I would not build a stand like that but it came from the shop contents I bought looking like that.

How practical is that machine compared to a more modem mill?

A lot slower, but can keep it's own on the right job. It will happily do the same slotting or similar operation over and over all day with very little babysitting. You can be running other operations simultaneously on other machines while it chugs along.

Then there's oddball jobs where it shines. Things that would be unpleasant on a vertical machine. Like this bore.

We had a Pexto shear like that but not as nice. It sat in the yard for years as our workers comp insurance wouldn't allow us to use it. I traded it and an old scary mechanical Mubea ironworker to a dealer for an old Blanchard grinder as a parts machine. One day I had a crash on our Blanchard which resulted in a busted gear on the table drive. Pulled the gear box and replaced it with the one from the parts machine. A new gear from Blanchard was way too much money and downtime.
