It's always nice working with cleaned and freshly painted parts.

A wright of passage when I was young was getting a BigAzz Channellock pliers from my dad. One of my prized possessions. I don't and haven't yet obtained any knipex. Looked at em at the home center but never pulled the trigger. I like fancy(expensive) tools as much as the next guy but Channellock has never let me down, so I haven't found the need to spend more.
I bought my uncle a pair of the 480's and have been meaning to get myself a pair just because,  but I haven't had a need yet and am not sure whether I'd ever really need them.

I'd be doing it.

Mind you, after my current build apparently there's not a lot I won't do!

Since I'm accumulating more rules than I have need for I'd be willing to let a few go if anyone wants to pick up the hobby. Just PM me.

I've not seen one of the classroom rules in person, only in photos.

From what I have read slide rule manufacture ceased around 1976 with the advent of electronic calculators. I entered HS around then, and got my first calculator as a sophomore for chemistry class. A Novus 777. Basic add, subtract, multiply, and divide model. The red LED's sucked juice like nobody's business, and I fashioned an AC voltage adaptor to replace the battery for use during long tests.

FWIW, I link the rule museum for facts and parts.

I think slide rules were going out of style as I was coming of age. Or maybe they were still in vogue in the late 1970's, or maybe I took the wrong class or something. I might have had a little exposure to them and one basic lesson in their use which was promptly forgotten⁴.  As such, I have no sense of nostalgic thoughts or appreciation about slide rules. I can appreciate the importance of what they were, and t he role they played in so many fields. It's just that as a tool they were never one that I used personally.
