When I was studying Stationary Engineering, I found low-pressure boilers to be the most interesting part of it. So even after I left the field, I have remained a strong interest in them. Poking around on YouTube, I found this, a nice combination of high and low tech:

Wow, way beyond my abilities.

I agreed with the part where he said he used synthetic oils. Mineral oils start to carbonize around 300 deg F. Synthetics will stay stable till around 400 deg F. I always thought that the extra 100 degrees of stability would probably help allow some engineering designs to flourish that couldn't with the older oils. Just never thought it would be a steam bike but heck it's cool.
