Very cool discovery. What's fascinating to me is that they were able to reach a US expert on Jeeps, and that guy sure is a wealth of information. Glad there are some of these folks around who know the most minute details of a particular automotive brand.

I sent Tom the Serial number and Data plate info from my ‘42 Ford GPW and he came up with where it was made (Richmond, CA) and a possible range of original hood numbers. It was made at the beginning of November. My wife and I visited the repurposed Ford plant which is next door to the Rosie the Riveter museum. They are about 15 minutes away from home.
