Soak those rubber posts in lacquer thinner, they`ll soften back up.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

I think they are happy.  Spawning.  Down the sidewalk and on the road back to Rockwell/Porter-Cable after decades of service.

The 4 rubber posts on the Porter Cable Type 2 which is a newer machine are supple and don't vibrate like the 40 year old plus Rockwell Type 1.  So the newer version follows follows the old out of respect.

Trying to date the 330 with the Rockwell logo.  According to Google. Rockwell bought PC around 1960.  It had been known as 330A, then Type 1, and then Type 2.  The Rockwell International name was in use around 1973 and that is the name on my Type 1.  Rockwell sold PC around 1981 to Pentair. Pentair sold to Black & Decker in 2004, and then merged with Stanley in 2010.

So my unfounded conclusion is that the jumping Rockwell Type 1 was made between 1973 - 1981

The Rockwell 330 has arrived at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania factory where is was born.  Looking for new legs.

The Porter Cable 330 has arrived at the Jackson, Tennessee factory where it was born.

This is what happens when Stanley takes over companies.

Almost 3 years later I used this product to soften the 4 rubber posts.  The posts are supple like the other sander that doesn't vibrate like crazy.  Sander is now usable.

We need to keep the old Porter Cable power tools in service, because Stanley Black & Decker has all but abandoned the name.  Norm would want it this way.

For a google searcher that wants to keep old sanders alive, the post part number is 912595.  Long discontinued.  Sometimes I saw on ebay new old stock posts but they are expensive for a set of 4, and I'm not going to buy a rubber part that has been sitting on a shelf for years that might be as stiff as what I have.

The post used on the 330 1/4" sheet sander is the same as the big brother 505 1/2 sheet sander.  Both sanders came out around 1963 when Rockwell owned Porter Cable.  Were in production for almost 50 years.  Now they are long gone.
