Googles Law?
« on: July 01, 2021, 07:51:25 AM »
I keep getting emails from "google" stating they need my birthdate to comply with the law. Seems like an awful " phishy" email to me.
Is there such a law? And what would compel me to want to comply?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Rich

I've never received that one and it sure sounds like phishing to me.

Either ignore or, ask for the penalty for non compliance or ask for copy of law

Or give them a random date from the late 1800's

Phil, you don't even want to click on the link in the email or the scammers/hackers have your info.

The law they are referencing is COPPA. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). Google sells information to everyone COPPA is to prevent the selling of preteens information. I remember years ago they tried to get a credit card number if a preteen tried to sign up for a service.

Another so so justification law gone totally wrong.

Hover over the email sender of Google, and see who it is from. Post that info here pls?

Here is one example from Google.
