What is this?
« on: April 07, 2022, 06:14:19 AM »
During my visit to a deceased woodworker's shop I came across this slide-hammer type tool.

What is its purpose?

It is a nail puller from around 1900.  Nail goes in the jaw, tighten and then pull the slide.  The common ones go for $20.00 to $30.00.  That one appears to be fairly common.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that.

This one is in very good condition especially compared to some I saw for sale on line.

They do work, but on soft pine they can chew up the wood something awful.   Good for demolition when 2 pieces must be separated. That handle what slides is not for pulling the nail,  it slides down for ramming the jaws around the nail head,  then slides out for leverage to pull the nail.
