Frigidaire range maintenance
« on: November 25, 2022, 01:57:33 PM »
I have an old Frigidaire range - the one with those monotube stove elements. So I'm thinking it's about 50 years old. Still works, and it made it through another thanksgiving day dinner. But she's looking a bit grungy, so, I decided this weekend it was time for some much needed cleaning and maintenance.
The elements are NLA, but I replaced them about 10 years ago. The drip pans and support rings take alot of heat, so I took them out this morning and cleaned them. Then applied a nice coat of heat resistant paint to both the pans and element support brackets. The pans should be chromed, but have deteriorated over the years and are also NLA. So heat resistant paint is the best I can do. Came out nice, with a silver and black contrast.

Tomorrow I clean the oven.  :-[

Looks great.

Do you know the part # for those heating elements?

I have an old Frigidaire –General Motors stove made in the early 50”s but it is all grungy. The small heating elements lasted 8 to 10 years but the large heating elements are original.

On my range top the outside rings are polished stainless steel but the triangle element supports are nickel-plated nonferrous mystery high temp metal. Most of the nickel has worn off but you can still see the copper plating on the backside.

Thanks!

Yes, I lightly sanded the tri-supports in prep for paint and it did have a copper color. Probably part of the plating process.

I don't recall the part numbers from my order of a decade ago, but I've heard that they've been discontinued by the manufacturer.

OK, finished the oven this morning. Man, there was alot of burned on gunk - guess I've been a bit remiss in my duties.  :lol_hitting:  No caustic chemicals - just diluted Dawn Blue and Quik N Brite paste.

Not bad for a 50+ year old range. The old gal hasn't looked so good in years!

B4 and after:

I hope you have a couple of extra 25 watt appliance light bulbs.

Don't know the wattage, but I snagged a couple of the high temp bulbs while working at Ace. Sure hope the baking element keeps going - I think that thing is NLA, too.

What is the model # on that stove? When i look up Compact 30 I can only find models with different elements.

My stove is so old that the only part numbers i have are for the range elements.

Can't find any nameplate. One spot that looks like it had one is bare now.

There are a couple of oven elemts on ebay that look like yours. The part # and wattage should be stamped on the back wall connection flange.

All 5 switches are also going. I've disassembled them and clean and lubed once but I gotta admit the poor thing has served it's life. Everything wears out - even the good stuff.
