Blue Point brake wrench
« on: September 20, 2018, 07:23:03 PM »
I've had this awhile, and all this talk about vintage tools got me thinking about it. I PM'd Snaparxon, and with the part number he was able to track it to a 1933 Snappy catalog. Didn't know I had such an oldster among my work tools! I like it because it's long, thin, and has 3 sizes on it (3/16", 1/4", and 11/32") - the latter two are quite common in my line of work.
It has a 7- stamped on it - could that be a year (1937?)

Nice wrench!

Date code looks more like 27 to me.

Yes, that is the date code.

The BP codes are dif for the late 30's. The -7 -8. -9. Are usually. 30s.  The comb. Wrenches have them, and they were not made in the 20's.  The BP tools from the late 20's usually have a two digit code like 28

Thanks!

It comes in handy when I have a fan motor to replace, and the butt end is right up against the panel. I really don't want to have to remove the whole back panel, and an 11/32" high-performance box end just won't work. The open end on this wrench allows me to get to the thing, and - with most fan motors being 5 1/4" in diameter - the wrench being about 9" gives me enough shank to grip.  8)

But it being so old I should just see if a collector wants it and find some other wrench. Maybe make one.

Thank you! That is very good info.
