Around here it is tough to find a place that has a clock on the wall. The restaurants in the casinos don't have one and the casinos don't either. That is on purpose so a customer can't see a clock and decide it is time to leave. You won't find them in Vegas either.

Never been in one but do know the why for that .

Worn a wrist watch for years.  Rotate several vintage ones,  the great oldies,  Bulova,  Elgin, Hamilton.   Have found some in self winding, nearly always in working condition.   There are a couple of the quartz things here too, put batteries in when I need to use them for awhile.  Do carry a cell phone but is troublesome to dig it out  when driving.  Also use the reverse planning thing taught in the Army, which uses an analog watch face to understand.  Like the metal bands rather than plastic.

The thing is that the casino restaurants offer great deals on good food. The only 24hr restaurant in our area is in a casino. They also have daily specials like on Sundays a 4pc fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw and a biscuit for $5.99. You can also get a full breakfast for $2.99 to $3.49 or steak and eggs for $4.99 to $5.99 in the area. You just have to resist the draw of the one armed bandits on your way in and out.

I have a couple of dozen wrist watches, from the freebies to a couple of Rolexes, haven’t wore one in close to 40 yrs. Just about the grandkids come, they will pull out the Rolexes and oogle and reluctantly sigh, when they have to put them back.

I buy an $8.77 wrist watch at Wal-Mart take off the band throw it away and put the watch in my pocket.  When the battery goes bad (they last l to 2 years I throw it away and get another.  Pocket watches don't work because the other stuff in my pocket pulls out the stem.  The very small stem on the wrist watch doesn't pull out.  Don't usually carry my phone when working.

This reminds me of an old friend of mine. He retired back in the early 80s from an big oilfield company after 40yrs. he was given a gold Rolex. He told me he wanted his grandson to have it but didn't trust the kids wife so he was holding on to it. Well he must have mentioned it around the wrong person. Some hoodrat kicked his back door in while was away and stole the safe he kept it in. Just the safe, nothing else.


He told me, when he got it he tookit to his buddy at the pawn shop. His buddy told him the gold case was worth $1500. this was 1980s $$

My Rolex Date Just is like this one. It was made in 1955.
It was issued to me in 1960 as I trained for MACV-SOG. I was a 1st Lt directly out of Texas A&M.
I still wear it right now as I type this.
It has been sent into Rolex for checking about every 10 years or so.
The price for one now is high, But this one is priceless.

i currently have a a timex  marathon digital and have worn a watch since i was a kid. never take it off. i have good luck with casio watches and that is what mey next one will probably be. i get 2-4 years out of them before they fail.

Actually hate any form of jewelry.
Don't have issues with time, having clocks in the house and vehicles.

I am with you.  I don't wear rings or watches as I have gotten them hooked on things at work.

Apparently a lot of the guys here are clock watchers

I absolutely am a clockwatcher. I have to have a clock next to the bed at night, as I can't sleep without knowing the time.

You were in MACV-SOG?! I knew you were Vietnam Veteran. Wow The nightmares you went through and the stories you could tell!

Were all special forces given Rolex watches?

All in our group were issued watches. No complaints here.
Even as an Officer,our chatter was restricted to a minimum.
We were "advisers"and used a rule book to use.
Most all of these books ended up in the latrine where they were really used.
I'm 80 now, and remembering the "old days".

My daily wear of late has been a 1990's vintage SEIKO 7002 series dive watch. If I am going to be working with my hands banging around things, then it is a beater Timex or Casio digital watch.

I wear a Timex weekender indeglo or an old Casio Marlin.

My dad started me out with a wrist watch and pocket knife when I was 7 and since then I've always had these items on me.
I didn't even know what cellphones were when I started wearing a watch and by the time I got one I was too used to looking down at my wrist that I never thought of my cellphone as a clock.

At work the phone stays in my bag, and because there's a watch on my wrist I actually have no clue where a clock might be if at all.
