I opened an ammo box that I had stored stuff in about 20 years ago. There was a yellow plastic mallet in the box and it gassed out and corroded many of the contents. A half dozen boxes of bullets had white stuff on all the lead tips and bases with the jackets discolored. There are boxes of primers that look ok but can they be trusted? I never thought that the plastic mallet would cause those problems but I guess the good seal on the box let the fumes build up.

Send all of the ammo and primers to me for testing :D
The only way you can know if its any good is to go out and test fire.

i would bet the ammo is fine.
the primers? who knows. use em asap for practice rounds or experimental loads making sure they were well labeled. would never want the risk of failure when hunting when the shit hits the fan.

Send that mallet to me overnight please, for long term testing. I'll advise back, but chances are that will be some time in the distant future.
I agree with the prior assessments.

Not much ammo in the can, just a few stray rounds and you can see what it did to the brass, copper jackets and exposed lead. I have Lee handloading kits for the 9mm and 44mag so I will test some of the primers. The ammo can was in a tote with other stuff that didn't get corroded including a can of Dupont SR7625 and a can of Hercules 2400 which are fine.

The boxes of bullets were in perfect shape when they went in the can.

Those price sticker are screaming 1986. Many companies used that style and type of sticker with a 2 digit year codes, so those puppies have seen a few presidents come and go.

I knew someone would see that and know. They would be in perfect shape except for that stinking mallet that I put with them. :021:

I would load them up just to see what happens. It would be more fun to load shoot and smile than to trash them.
