Purple grease for disc brakes?
« on: June 04, 2022, 05:10:26 PM »
Hey all you car mechanics, got a question for ya. Watched a video of a guy doing disc brakes, and he lubed the slide pins with this purple grease. Couldn't get the brand off of the jar, he didn't say what it was, and didn't have a link description. Wondering what it is, and if it'd be good for other applications. Usually I can gather enough info to do a search but this one is just slipping by.

Since I never worked on disc brakes I'm not familiar at all with the parts, terminology, and techniques.

Save yourself a lot of grief and only use Sil-Glyde or OEM lubes.

Ron's correct George; get the NAPA Sil-Glyde. It doesn't react with the "rubber" boots and the anti-vibration sleeves on the pins.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking since it was a grease used on disc brakes it would have to be highly heat resistant. Was thinking of getting some and using it for other high heat applications.
The Permatex lube had a ceramic component that sounds alot like the bentonite (i.e. clay) I read about in BMW's brake lube.

Yup, has to be silicone-based because petroleum is not good for the rubber components.
