Bring your cash reserves, I swear good vices and anvils seem priceless anymore. Went to an estate sale last weekend, 100lb anvil bring $450 and a 60's craftsman vice brings $175. There is a sale coming with a 500lb anvil, something tells me it won't go as high as the 100 pounder.

Well,  Apparently I have a horseshoe shoved somewhere...  I came across a last minute Online auction about 65 miles from me....  Scored a Morgan Chicago fixed base vise for $40 (plus the gas to go get it and a couple other things like another storage cabinet)   Picking it up tomorrow as apparently the guy has to be out of the property by the end of the month....     He seems to have collected stuff from various auctions as he works as a regional rep. for the online auction house.

There have been many lesser known quality precision tools made over the years. Micro-Masters being one of them. And I'm sure that indicator served its' owner well. Great find..

Here's two of my older indicators. The Lufkin 199 was my father's that dated back to the early 1900's. In the forties and fifties Starrett Last Word dial indicator was the one that became the mainstay of machinists. I always felt the Last Word's draw back was the need to flip a small lever to change the direction of the reading..

(or keep an eye out for a decent second vise to mount outside permanently)

.........is all it takes to ruin my day.  ;). For a guy that has thousands of dollars in hand tools at his disposal, I ran into a brick wall on this exhaust manifold bolt. No wrench, socket, adapter, crowsfoot, or specialty tool in my inventory would get on this flange nut. The nut was too tight against the outlet pipe and at an extreme angle that was blocked by the AC lines.

I finally got the torch and knocked a side off it and then heated it to cherry red. That's the point when I decided to take the stud instead of the flange nut. Almost two hours in and this little 1/4" flex ratchet and a small Torx socket pulled the SOB free.

This particular flange nut in this location has ruined many a technicians day -- they're that notorious. :97:

Tomorrow I install the new CAT -- wish me luck!

MACHINE SHOP / Micro-Master v-49 dial indicator set

It is an older USA made dial indicator set. I would guess circa mid 1950's to the 1960's.  I just bought a super clean (looks like new) set off of Ebay for $20.00 with free shipping. Just too cheap and clean to pass on.
Once I bought the set I started trying to research the brand and found nothing, just tons of sets identical to mine for sale, but zero about the brand or company.

Anyone ever heard of the brand or know anything about the brand or manufacturer?

Those connectors are notorious for that.

You mentioned CAT cleaning? What's your preferred method? Is it just a temporary fix?

Temporary fix Tim. I used a bottle of CataClean as directed and it solved the problem temporarily. Experience has taught me that once you get a P0430 or P0420, the specific Cat (left or right bank) is on its last legs. You can keep cleaning it, but eventually the code returns and it will need to be replaced in the very near future. Better to just replace it, along with the upper and lower sensors.
Kinda figured. I have the code on my truck. Watching the voltage readings while it runs it's evident that the cat is failing or failed.

I'll have to bite the bullet and put a new one in sometime.

just cement a piece of pipe in the ground outside and bolt your vise to it. Thats what I did.

Square tube cemented in ground and vise mounted on smaller square tube that fits inside mounted tube. Think Reese hitch. Pull vise out and store inside when not used

Well chit...
Go to the museum of flight , that is world class.
Take a drive over to Roslyn for breakfast.
If you can make it to Sumner for  breakfast at the buttered biscuit you'll be dreaming about that feed for weeks.

Turn around and go back.....

I'd love to, but My boss wants me to come out to the Facility there for a week or so......
