we have no snow left and the yard and roads are pretty well dried up. moving things around today so lined them up for a field team shot.

left to right, new holland t6070 elite, cat challenger 55, new holland t7.270 and cat challenger 765b.

Assuming your after better wheat yield with the smaller spacing?

yup, generally speaking wheat does better at 6 or 7.5 inch spacing. under the right conditions 10 inch wheat will do ok but it struggles to close the rows to prevent moisture loss and compete with weeds. i will try some as an experiment. soybeans on the other hand do ok at 6 or 7.5  but can struggle to emerge.  the also canopy well covering the ground. soybeans actually have a sweet spot of 10 - 15 inches.  the work together to push out of the ground and canopy fairly quick. certain plant diseases are also less of an issue on wider spacing. we also see some 22 inch rows that do well but they will often start tosuffer  when you get out to 30 inch like much of the corn is planted at.
