Repainting wood trim. Ugh!

But remembering how you did your other trim with the eaves and gables I'm sure this project will come out top notch.

It's fun if one looks at it in correctly. Sure, it sucks..............It's a lot of dirty ass, hard work. The satisfaction at the end of the job is significant !!

You're looking at 3 week here  :a102: Allow Elroy clarify this bold claim. Burning and scraping for 6 hours on a Saturday. Maybe 2 hours sanding on Sunday then it rains the next the weekend. A solid 8 hours on Saturday of the third week end with 3 or 4 hours Sunday to clean up and mask off the glass .............then it's time to paint. Yep it sucks when It takes maybe a hour to paint but 20 hours for preparation. Yep that sucks..................just like Kamala on Joe and BLM :-*

Can elroy explain what he means by burning? If he's bored I've got porches that need painting...

As I recall Elroy "burned" off several layers of paint on another project with a torch. The heat really helped loosen up the paint, making for less scraping.

Fully correct observation by the Bonneyman. When you're dealing with 5 or 6 coats of 50 year old paint..............It's got to come off and in this case heat is your friend. You'll notice some charred wood along the molding that required concentrated heat. That's where the sanding comes in. Elroy considers it therapeutic treatment after dealing with his regular job.

Did Elroy get some good whiffs of the old lead paint when he was heating it? I had to remove an area of old asphalt/asbestos linoleum from my old house and that stunk bad when I used a propane torch to heat it. Square inches of removal was a victory on that one.

I hate paint prep with a passion. But I know whats involved in getting a good paint job on and prep is 90% of  good paint job.

When I need to relieve stress from the job it usually involves a hammer :lol_hitting:

This kind of prep work produces a good paint job: :-*

Got the glass taped off and the initial coat on the windows  :93:

There's the FOURTH week. Good work takes time.
The best thing is, Elroy won't have to do this section again for several years !

That should look good. Right now I am cleaning up all the smears that the former painter(owner) left on every. single. piece. of. glass. in the house. Oh, and the silicon used instead of glaziers putty on the garage windows.

And in winter I get back to cleaning up the smears on interior woodwork that the same painters left all over.
