It was a pile of 12" I beam cut to length and designed by my boss.  Add in a shit ton of steel plate 3/8" to 1" and six kilos of welding rod it became a press.  The table can be lifted and lowered but is captive in the frame.  As in welded to a non removable part unless its cut out.

In the uses the table and upper beam have arced away from each other.  It has never needed any frame repair.

Previously I had never used a welder for more than a practice bead.  That shows a bit.

That press is the 2nd biggest in the city we know of and sees use.
Mostly the smaller orange ram now but that big one is supposed to be 50 plus tons.   When you need the power it can deliver.

He seems to have an abundance of pins and such to lift and push with.... lol!   We used to keep but a few and now it fills the entire floor under it.

How heavy is the bottom crossbar and how many does it take to raise/lower it?

I have no solid idea of the weight.  I always used a floor jack to lift and lower it.  Estimate 10' of 12" I beam  plus 100 lbs of plate and such.  And that is jus the lower table.  Everything is braced and thickened in work areas.    If I recall even where it sets on the side pins there is 1/2" plate on the flange of the beam.

The entire concept of that thing is if 1" is good then 2"  means we can't break it.  But we would try anyway.
