I split lanes when I rode (also in California), but did so courteously.
I don't appreciate riders continuously rapping their obnoxiously loud pipes in my ear while splitting lanes. It tends to piss people off.
Some pipes are unreasonably loud. In a way it's a safety thing loud pipes announce you're in the vicinity unless you're going at lightspeed like some of the riders.
He was yelling cause he was pissed that he was stuck and you were not. Loads of cagers get mad at the riders .. jealous
Most likely you are exactly correct. But I'm sure given a moments thought he'd rather I pass than stuck behind all the riders that rode by if they were in cars ahead of him.
And when he was all done having a temper tantrum, of courser you drove on by
Ummm yes, once he closed the door I just rode on by even though I was very tempted to kick off his mirror.
I commuted about 35 miles each way on a bike for many years and part of the commute was on the 405 going south from the Ventura freeway to a little past the 10 freeway. If you're familiar it's one of the worst stretches in LA. There was an LAPD motor cop who commuted much of the way about the same time as I did and if I could I'd get behind him often there were several other riders in row behind him. One day a guy saw a bike and I suppose didn't realize it was a cop and kept trying to block him. Once the cop get next to the guy he pointed to him to pull over. Not sure what happened but my guess is it was a behavior changing event for that driver.
