Pawnie finds: 10-8-21
« on: October 08, 2021, 03:45:40 PM »
Hit a really good estate sale today. Lots of tools! Walked away with 3 bags of stuff!
2 Makita flashlights and a carrying case ($1 each) plus a box of Makita approved bits ($2). Craftsman MDF 3/8" rat ($2) and Bon-e-con 1/2" 5" extension ($3). A pair of Hanson's socket holders. Always wanted to try these - at a buck a piece and only one stub broken I figured they were worth it.
From another sale I found a Seized up PVC cutter, another Craftsman LLTD rat, and a Williams 1/2" rat that I need the gear for another Williams handle I've had for about 4 years. It pays to wait! Both rats are working now, and the PVC cutter is going through a total restoration, to become a spare. You'll always need to cut PVC pipe.

Plus the cream of the haul: a Blue Point halogen detector. In both, comes on and beeps (haven't tested it with freon yet) and instruction booklet. Uses 4 AA batteries so no charger needed, and USA made. Since my TIF leak detector broke years ago I've had to resort to soap bubbles. Nice to have an electronic tester again. Cost me $1!!!

maybe someone who's familiar with this model could chime in and give me some info.

Thanks!

Not that I needed anymore flashlights, but - for a buck a piece - just the spare parts alone made it insane to pass up. Most of those parts are NLA, so, I had to grab them. And older Craftsman ratchets - though not a favorite of mine - are stout and useable if they can be made functional. I can just bury them in my time capsule pit and save them for the apokalypse!  :lol_hitting:

The LLTD rat is fully functional. The MDF rat is missing the screws and the main gear is missing a tooth, but I have those spare parts in my junk bin and believe I can get it back to full functionality as well.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

Vnice, you`ll like those socket holders.

I've seen them for awhile but usually when I come across them they've got several posts snapped off. This pair had only one post broken, so, I figured I could install a nail or pin as it's the 1/4"er and there shouldn't be a problem.

On the socket holders,  I have only seen the triple row ones branded snap on.  For broken studs, I flip them over, drill a hole for a number 6 or 8 machine screw and run it through and put a nut on top.

I have the Hansen trays. They work ok but take up a lot of room   The S52 William is hard to beat

It's a plastic pocket multi-tip screwdriver. promotional item (I know the company who gave it away). Missing a bit but I'm sure one will show up.

OK, here's the two older Craftsman ratchets cleaned, repaired, and lubed. Ready for use. Both have oil ports.
I'm fortunate to have had the pieces I needed to restore the MDF rat. Those kits are NLA.

Going in my "last resort" stash, could be trading fodder .

Nice job on the PVC pipe cutters. I keep two pair as I can usually locate one when I need it. :-[
